An individual’s personality is an intricate combination of characteristics and traits, which determines the expectations, attitudes, values, perception of self, and a prediction of the reaction to particular situations, people, and stress. The list of personality traits shows that there are predominantly five types of personality traits such as extroversion, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, as well as emotional stability.
Despite the commonalities that one might have, each individual is different. When you study the list of personality traits in greater detail, you will have a better understanding of various traits and a better understanding of various personality disorders as well.
Personality disorders generally refer to a pattern of thoughts, behavior, and feelings that are exhibited by the individual over a period of time, which may be maladaptive, creating psychological distress, as well as problems in coping with life. This does not help an individual while making adjustments in life and does not help in improving the problem solving abilities of an individual either.
It is a pattern of behavior that consistently deviates from the expectations of a person’s culture. This type of a personality disorder is generally inflexible, pervasive, and is noticed during early adulthood. It becomes stable over a period of time and can lead to impairment and distress in the future.
The main personality disorders are Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality disorder, and Schizoid Personality Disorder.
Individuals with borderline personality disorder suffer from mood swings, instability in relationships, and are always filled with the fear of abandonment. Since they are very impulsive, they always engage in behavior that is always self-defeating in nature.
Individuals with Narcissistic Personality Disorder have little regard for the others and are very pretentious. They are in love with themselves and demand admiration from other people.
